Oratti is a very
common breakfast delicacy made once in a while at homes of Kerala. The real
reason why most people choose not to make Oratti on a daily basis is because
they think it is time consuming. If you have more members at home, it would be
preferable to make Oratti on a holiday when you get a whole lot of free time
for making special delicacies.
Oratti can be
called as Kerala’s kind of chapatti. Right from my childhood, I think Orattis
have been my all time favorite breakfast delicacy. Even to this day I make it a
point to make Orattis more frequently. But as time does not allow during busy
working day mornings, I postpone them to Saturdays when I get at least some
time to breath in the kitchen. ;)
I like orattis
being thin and soft. It is not necessary that they need to be as thin as a chapatti.
But I make sure that they are thin and soft, taking care not to burn it or add
too much of salt that can spoil its taste. You can make a delicious vegetable
curry to accompany with your orattis, or you can dip them in the mutton curry
as I have done in the photograph.
Checkout the
recipe for Oratti that is given below, and make your Saturdays special!! Or try
making them for a special dinner with your husband. He will really love it a
lot ;) (Romantic eh?)
