Healthy Wheat Paratta - The Best Way To Start Moving Towards A Healthy You

Since everybody is health conscious these days, we find a lot of change in the use of ingredients that are used in many dishes and bread varieties too. The use of all purpose flour or Maida has been literally cut short to a very large extent by majority of the masses. The entry of whole wheat flour in place of all purpose flour or Maida has paved the way for a revolution in cooking. Many households prefer the use of whole wheat flour or whole wheat atta for the purpose of making chapattis, puris and parattas. In certain cities in Kerala, India, Maida or whole wheat atta parattas are banned. But I do not know how far the laws are enforced these days. But one thing is for sure, people are on for whole wheat products than they were for Maida products these days.

Parattas, especially Kerala Parattas or Kerala Borotta (As it is said in Kerala), usually make use of Maida or All purpose flour for its making. These days, the demand for Whole wheat Parattas/Borottas is so high that even restaurants have started serving this bread variety for their customers.

Making wheat parattas are quite simple. All you need is a bit of patience and lots of love!! So check out the recipe for Whole Wheat Parattas and let me know how you made them in your homes. I have chosen organic Whole wheat flour for the making of Wheat parattas.

Ingredients

·         Whole Wheat Atta
·         Luke warm Water
·         Palm oil
·         Salt

Method

·         In a large vessel, add sufficient amount of Wheat flour (3 Cups for 2 people)
·         Add sufficient salt to the flour and mix well
·         Add Luke warm water little by little and mix well. You can also use cold water.
·         Mix the flour well and make it into the perfect dough, not too thick and not too sticky
·          Make the dough into a large ball and cover it with a plastic sheet
·         Allow it to rest for 15-20 min. A maximum of 2 hours rest for dough can make it softer and easier to roll.
·         After 20 min, remove the plastic sheet and make large balls out of the dough
·         Allow them to rest for 5 min
·         By that time, you can light up your stove and place a tava on it
·         Let the tava heat. now simmer the flame and proceed to the rolling of parattas
·         Take out a ball of dough and flatten it with your palms
·         Take some wheat flour in a small plate
·         Put the flattened dough on the flour and dust it with flour
·         Now you may roll the dough into a round chapatti. Make sure you make it a bit larger and thinner. Dab a small amount of oil on top of the chapatti
·         You may now fold the chapatti into smaller pleats

Roll the pleated dough to make it into a pleated ball
·         Now you may roll the pleated ball. Make sure that you make the perfect round shaped parattas for that extra beauty
·         Place the paratta on the tava and cook well. Pour oil/ghee and turn it and allow the other side to cook well.
·         After turning it once or twice in both high and low flames, you may serve them hot with Mutton curry, chicken curry or Vegetable curry.
·         Enjoy!!
