Any special occasion in Kerala, is
traditionally celebrated with a ‘Sadya’, the traditional vegetarian meal. This meal
is a real treat for the taste buds, as it has a long list of vegetarian dishes;
and not to forget the final dessert part, Payasam.
Rice in a sadya is served with
parippu curry which is poured on top, with a dash of ghee on. Usually Parippu
curry or toor dal curry is loved by all, especially kids. Checkout the recipe

Ingredients
·
Parippu/Toor
Dal – 1 cup
·
Shallots
– 5 + 5 nos
·
Garlic
– 5 cloves
·
Coconut
gratings- ½ cup
·
Turmeric
powder – ¼ tsp
·
Cumin
seeds (powder) – a pinch or two
·
Coconut
oil
Method
·
Wash
toor dal
·
Take
a pressure cooker and add toor dal
·
Add
some water
·
5
shallots and garlic (2)
·
Close
the lid of the pressure cooker
·
Switch
on fire and place the pressure cooker for 2 whistles
·
In
a mixer jar, add coconut grating, shallots (5 nos), garlic (3), cumin seeds
powder and turmeric powder
·
Run
the mixer with a little bit of water and grind it well
·
After
2 whistles, open the lid and pour in the coconut mix
·
Mash
the toor dal well with the coconut mix
·
Switch
on flame and add some water to make into a loose consistency
·
Add
sufficient amount of salt
·
Allow
the dal to boil
·
Serve
hot with rice and add a dash of ghee on rice to make it yummy. Checkout the picturized version given below.
